What: The Great National Novel Writing Month Book Drive

Where: Right here in Pittsburgh, Pa.

When: Oct. 1 – Dec. 15

How: Donate your books by dropping them off at one of our drop off locations, bringing them to a write in, or contacting me at narrativeintheblog@gmail.com for pick up (for large numbers of books only).

Why: The books collected during the book drive will be sold through Better World Books, an online bookstore that partners with nonprofits.  The proceeds from selling the books we collect during this book drive will go to supporting NaNoWriMo and the Young Writers Program, which puts free writing tools into the hands of 30 educators across Pennsylvania and countless others across the country.

NaNoWriMo is a month-long writing challenge in November in which participants write 50,000 word novels.  Tens of thousands of writers participate each and every year.  The goal is not to write something spectacular or publishable, but simply to write.  Editing, revising and (hopefully) publication come after November!

Your book drive coordinator: I’m Kelly, and this is my fourth Nano!  I work at a local newspaper and live on the city’s Northside.  I graduated from Pitt and recently became addicted to the Penguins (the hockey kind).  I blog about metafiction at http://narrativeintheblog.wordpress.com (hence the weird email address) and maintain a website at http://kellylynnthomas.com.  Nice to meet you!
